G'day Dog Lovers,
I am often asked, what is the secret to having a great life with your dog...
The simple answer is - set aside your ego.
What do I mean when I say this.... I mean that when we are ready to set aside our own wants and needs to allow our dogs to flourish as themselves, then and only then can we begin to see what fantastic creatures they really are.
The process of Dog Listening asks you to recognise your dog(s) for the truth that they are. This means meeting their needs, their true and actual needs as apposed to the needs our human selves impose. We do it with our children (we don't give them red cordial before they go to bed because we know it is not good for them), we allow our cats to be true to who they are (they present us with a dead bird on the door step, we might not like, but we accept it) and yet when it comes to our dogs we so often deny them what they are.
We can use traditional training methods to bribe them, force to harm them and these things will have a result, but they have one big failing... if we understand a dog for all that it is, it's instincts, its physical self and needs, then we can truly offer them an environment that is safe and allows them to flourish to their full potential.
Dog Listening also allows us to EARN our dogs respect, no tricks, no force. In understanding their canine behaviour from their own perspective we can have a relationship with them that is beyond what we ever hoped for or expected.
At Fun4Paws this is exactly why we teach Dog Listening to people wanting the help their dogs whether it be simply to learn more about their canines or to help alleviate problems from the most simple, to the most complex.
