Six month anniversary - Victorian Bush Fires
It is certainly a time of mixed emotions for us all at Funds4Paws. We are aware that all is not well in the fire-affected areas. Posttraumatic stress is taking its toll on the many people and families that are huddled in appalling conditions. It is very difficult to comprehend the very difficult road ahead for so many people.
In a very conservative estimate we have distributed upwards of $40.000.00 Aus dollars worth of goods both donated and purchased, collected from around Australia and New Zealand. All the items have not only gone to meet the needs of the dogs, but it has spread immense good will through the community.
Today we sent a waterproof coat and warm jumper for a newly adopted 4-year-old Jack Russell who is living with her new family in a shed whilst their replacement home is built. We will continue our road trips to distribute the wet and dry food and dog coats that we have remaining. We still have a small number of kennels that will be delivered as required. We continue to support our wonderful foster carers that generously offer their homes and their hearts to those dogs in need.
The bush, animals and land move ever onwards, recuperating and regenerating. On our last trip to the fire affected areas we observed small birds flying above the grasses chasing insects, it reminds us of an environment which use to be rich with life, there are still many elements of the bush that have a long period of recovery ahead.
We hope that as the winter ends and spring returns, we do not forget about this cataclysmic event and the ongoing effect it is having on thousands of people in our community.
We are proud to be part of the community with all of your generosity and spirit. We are very grateful for all of your support.
Kind regards & many thanks,
Luke Williams, Lynne Fitzsimmons and the Funds4Paws team.
