Saturday 2/5/09

Slowly slowly people's house blocks are being cleared and they are moving back up into caravans and portable accommodation. Fun4paws have continued to do 3 trips a week, we have met every request so far. This we couldn’t do with out your generous support.

I had a volunteer worker travel up with me on Saturday. Hayley had to travel from Geelong to my place the start point, so a huge effort from her. We left at 9.30 am and didn’t return until 8pm.The days are long but they are also fun.
We picked up a huge red donated kennel on the way up to Flowerdale. We are lucky as we get to meet some of the people who donate the goods plus of course' their dogs. Wallace the Ridgeback and his buddy Chief were absolutely delightful.
We must also mention Jake the Jack Russell aged 13 years who is very impressively still catching rats and happy to donate his kennel to a needy dog as well.

With this cold snap still on us there has been a rush on kennels for small dogs. So yesterday when Marcus and I went over to our Essendon storage facility to pick up 1 medium kennel that had been kindly dropped off, we were thrilled to see a further 2 kennels ideal for the smaller dogs.

The massive pile of dog coats that have been sent from all round the country is reducing as we fit each dog with a smart warm coat.
35 hand made snug rugs arrived from Darwin all various sizes and they are very nice and soft. We also have a volunteer who is sewing literally miles and miles of donated blankets and towels into the best dense mats for the bottom of the kennel's. A little thinking out side the square is helping us provide protection from the bone chilling cold still to come.

We have an unofficial score card for the jockeys, at this stage Glynis is way out in front as the best navigator, much better company than any satellite navigator system. There are clear demarcation lines over the yellow snakes in the must have supply for the trip up. All the yellow snakes are mine, Hayley on the other hand likes green M and M's these she can have.

Today sees Luke and myself heading back up with all the things we need to meet the orders we picked up from Kinglake on Saturday.

On a more serious note this is the only avenue we have to say a heart felt thanks to you all. Your donations are making a huge difference. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are benefiting from your generosity. The gratitude of their owners is sincere with so many issues still ahead of them it is a huge relief to not have to worry about their dogs being cold and wet.
