G’day all,
It has indeed been a little while since our last blog post! Today I would like to bring you up to date on Brodie, our final foster dog from the bush fires. Brodie has been in foster care with a wonderful family for almost 2 years. Her original family realised they would no longer be able to care for her as they were in rental accommodation and were not allowed to take in pets. Brodie is a 3.5 year old short haired border collie from working lines who loves to run and ‘work’. This in mind we had to consider carefully where best to re-home her, a suburban back yard for such an active dog use to paddocks and wide open spaces was less than ideal! We got in touch with a group who run a scent detection team, responsible for checking ships coming into the bay – they are responsible for checking for bombs, drugs etc. After initial discussions we embarked on a two stage assessment.
The fist stage was with the head of the troupe in a park unknown to Brodie, here she had to prove her ability to follow her nose and show that she had good drive behind finding the ‘toy’, she was indeed successful!
Second stage testing was held down at the port Melbourne Docks where Brodie had to demonstrate her drive and focus once again in different settings ie; in a dark room, down an escalator etc. Brodie passed with flying colours and was returned home for a couple of weeks before being received by her new home.
Brodie will now embark on being trained as one of Australia’s border protection dogs, helping us all to be safe and providing her with a stimulating and active lifestyle.
The Fund4Paws team could not be happier at the outcome, it is great to know that every dog/owner that sought out our assistance we were able to assist, even two years down the track!
Funds4Paws is meeting this weekend ahead of the AGM to discuss direction and focus for the new financial year, we will keep you updated!
Keep an eye out for out next post, where I will be introducing you to a new doggy service provider in the Bayside area and I will share a little of her story with you…
Until then, keep your canines happy and thanks for reading!
